Lil B - People Like Me
Lil B’s refrain at the end is as awesome as Kanye’s at the end of “New Slaves.”

I don’t really have a sexy story. I sent several cold pitches/emails asking if the office needed any kind of assistance. Then I waited. I waited for about 2-3 weeks without a response. I retweeted (subtweeted?) a story that the editor I’d contacted wrote. (Is a subtweet still a subtweet if I use the Twitter handle?) In any case, my subliminal tweet worked. The editor DMed me immediately after, and we continued the conversation.
Apparently one of the editors was familiar with my work and was nice enough to recommend me to another editor in charge of interns. After a long email exchange and a very lovely in-person chat, I was offered a position.
I had a really fatty steak for dinner in celebration. My heart beat so rapidly in the following hours, and it wouldn’t stop beating fast. I thought I was going to die before I was even able to step into the office. When it persisted the following day, I got legitimately concerned. I asked my mom, who works as a medical assistant. She laughed and told me I was just excited. (Thanks, mom!) My blood pressure and cholesterol levels were fine.
That was last December. I then jumped through bureaucratic hoops for the next two-and-a-half months before I even got a glimpse of the office. Everything that has happened since March 6 (when I officially started) has been an honor and a blessing.

2014 resolution: Write more about music, less about the Charlotte Bobcats.
These are 25 of my favorite songs and 13 of my favorite albums of the year, more or less in order, presented without comment. Though, if you want comments, just ask. I have comments.

Rich Homie Quan - Reloaded
You have no idea how happy this song makes me. Best use of Toto’s “Africa” on a rap track?

I’ve gone back and listened to a lot of Cymbals Eat Guitars this past week. Why There Are Mountains was one of my favorite albums of 2009, and I don’t think it there’s a skippable song on the album.
I remember not enjoying Lenses Alien much. I still don’t find it as magnetic on the whole as their debut, but “Plainclothes” / “Definite Darkness”/ “Another Tunguska” is a really, really good three-song sequence.
